Behind the Art at Canton
A team of 12 local artists, lead by Adam Hernandez, have helped to develop the theme inspired by classic treasure hunters from pop culture: Indiana Jones and Lara Croft Tomb Raider. In the open-ing scene of Raiders of the Lost Ark, Indiana Jones finds himself in the rainforest seeking an an-cient relic. This is the setting for a mural with crumbling ancient Peezler statues guarding the treas-ure map. Everywhere you turn there is quirky creativity amid the backdrop of local history. Turn of the century President William McKinley douses a taco with hot sauce while First Lady Ida dips a chip in queso. A gold jacket made of cheese? That’s a tip of the helmet to the Pro Football Hall of Fame, a primary visitor destination in Canton. Other celebs light up the walls: All around star ath-lete from the 1920’s Jim Thorpe, Grammy winner Macy Gray, 70s hit artist Box Scaggs, and Mike Schario of Pawn Stars.

The Art of It All
Canton is the county seat of Stark County, and is best known as the home of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Its most famous residents include turn of the century United States President William McKinley, talk show host Jack Paar (predecessor to Johnny Carson) and rock band Marilyn Manson. The local artists have created an array of weird and wacky art, including President McKinley enjoying hot sauce on his taco, while his wife Ida prefers queso and chips.
